Helen Cammock: behind the eye is the promise of rain at Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover, Germany

26 February - 22 May 2022

behind the eye is the promise of rain is Helen Cammock's first large-scale solo exhibition in Germany.

An architectural installation in the large domed hall at Kestner Gesellschaft serves as a stage for Cammock’s recent prints, films and performances. During the exhibition a new performance will be developed in collaboration with Unter einem Dach / Under One Roof, a group from Hannover that implements creative projects to promote integration and participation. This joint performance will take place towards the end of the exhibition in May.

The exhibition includes three recent films, There's a Hole in the Sky Part II: Listening to James Baldwin (2016), an imaginary conversation with the writer and activist James Baldwin; They Call It Idlewild (2020), a film and text installation that Cammock developed after her residency at the Wysing Arts Centre in Cambridgeshire; and Changing Room (2014) a film set in the home of the artist’s father George Cammock, whose ceramics and drawings also feature in the exhibition.
