Lisa Milroy’s depictions of mountain peaks are rendered with quick loose brush marks loaded with paint. As such, the mountain as a seemingly solid enduring proposition becomes unfixed and unstable in a rhythmic improvised web of lines, dots and dashes, as if it might fall apart or morph into something else. Untethered from the horizon, the view of the mountain may ignite a sense of exhilaration and promise on one hand, or stir up feelings of fear or apprehension on the other. The blue colour beyond ambiguously suggests both sky and ocean.
