Laura Gannon, Cacophony of Bone, Council of the European Union, Brussels, Belgium

Laura Gannon's work 'Cacophony of Bone' (2025) is part of the exhibition 'Cuimhne agus Seadchomhartha (Memory and Monument)' across the Justus Lipsius Atrium and Presidency Suites at the Council of the European Union in Brussels, Belgium.

Presenting artworks from across the island of Ireland, north and south, the project brings together a range of practices in dialogue, reflecting a shared creative space shaped through collaboration and exchange. 

Curated by Richard Malone, the artworks were selected to show the expansive dialogue between Irish artists and makers working today, and their distinct links to pre-colonial Irish artistic practices – including weaving, stitch, metalwork, woodwork and ceramics. Fabric runs throughout the work as a unifying material; a surface that holds traces of labour, identity, and exchange. It speaks to shared histories of making, where textile traditions connect personal experience with wider cultural and historical narratives.
